Composting

Compost is a biological process in which biological wastes are stabilized and converted into a product to be used as a soil conditioner and organic fertilizer.

Our compost is a black mixture of nutrient rich all natural material derived from leaves, brush and grass.  Compost is generally used cold, and the particle size is less than ½ an inch.

Mulch is a loose covering of a material on top of soil to prevent weeds, retain moisture and control erosion.

Our mulch is a dark brown mixture of high carbon material derived from mostly wood.  Mulch is generally used warm, and the particle size is less than ½ an inch.

Filter Berm Material is used to filter sediment run-off and control erosion by retaining sediment in the flow but allowing water to filter through.  This material replaces silt fence.

Our filter berm material is a dark brown mixture of high carbon material derived from mostly wood.  The particle size is 1 inch in diameter.

Absorbent is a material used to absorb semi-solid by-products in order to produce a solid material.  This replaces sawdust.

Our absorbent is a dark brown mixture of freshly ground yard trimmings.  The particle size is less than ½ an inch.

Rumpke understands that recycling yard trimmings can be crucial to the environment. Using any of these products can create the remediation of pesticide-contaminated soils, explosives contaminated soils, petroleum contaminated soils, and heavy metal contaminated soils.

Recycled yard trimmings also improves the soil’s physical properties such as reducing wind erosion and nutrient runoff, improves the soil structure, vertical aeration and the absorbent capacity.

Compost, mulch, filter berm material and absorbents also improve the soil’s chemical and biological properties.  They increase the water holding capacity, act as a pH buffer, and increase the cation exchange capacity.  The products supply macro- and micro- nutrients, organic matter, beneficial soil microbes as well as suppress weed seeds.
