A Cause Close To Our Hearts
On July 20, 1966 our second son, Timothy was born. At birth he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, transposition of the great vessels of the heart, a condition that 40 years ago presented little treatment options. Sadly, Timmy returned to heaven in January 1967.
Timmy is always with us in our hearts and as parents, we wanted him to be remembered. During his short life, he endured two surgeries, which provided doctors with research to help develop today’s treatments. To honor our son, we created The Timothy James Rumpke Foundation in December 2009. It’s a Foundation to raise money for the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, one of the top ten best children’s hospitals and heart institutes in the nation. During its first year, the Foundation raised more than $50,000 thanks to support from family, friends and business partners.
While today, congenital heart defects are widely treatable, more research is necessary to supplement existing knowledge about prevention and post surgery treatment throughout childhood and into adulthood. The Heart Institute merges research, treatment and educational programs to reach these goals.
Our hearts go out to children suffering from heart disease or other illnesses and their families. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is an organization we are proud to support and we hope others will do the same. Contributions to the Timothy James Rumpke Foundation can be mailed to PO Box 53778 Cincinnati, Ohio 45253 or you may call 513-260-0101 or visit www.cchmc.org/heart for more information.
