Rumpke Assists With Missing Persons Investigation

CINCINNATI (Feb. 20, 2011) –Rumpke is assisting with a law enforcement investigation
involving missing persons Richard and Gladis Russell of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Investigators from various agencies will meet at Rumpke Sanitary Landfill tomorrow at
approximately 10 a.m. They will search for physical evidence which may have been placed in
the landfill late last week. Rumpke officials have secured the search area and are providing
work space and office resources for investigators during the search at the site.

The investigation team contacted Rumpke on Saturday and Rumpke began preparing the
search area. “This is a difficult situation. First and foremost our hearts go out to the families
involved,” said Larry Stone, director of corporate safety at Rumpke.

“Being part of this community means lending our assistance when possible. We are making
every effort to provide the investigators with the access and resources they need to further this
process.”

The Russells disappeared from their home in Bellefontaine on February 16. Although
investigators have no information that anything connected to the case is at landfill, trash
containers from the southbound rest area on I-75, near where the Russell’s Mercury Gran
Marquis was parked on Wednesday night, were emptied the following morning, hours before the
couple was reported missing. Therefore, investigators believe it is prudent to examine the
landfill area where the container contents were delivered.
