TROTWOOD, Ohio –June 30, 2014—The City of Trotwood and Rumpke are distributing 65-gallon recycling carts to residents, July 8-18, a change that could increase recycling as much as 25 percent.
The carts can hold three times as much recycling as the red bins, and will still be emptied by Rumpke every week. Communities using the wheeled carts have increased recycling participation and volume.
"It is so important for Trotwood to be on the cutting-edge of initiatives that will yield 21st century results," said Mike Lucking, Trotwood City Manager. "Providing high quality waste removal and becoming a more green community, is not only good for the environment, it also helps us further our commitment to manage costs. This partnership will include an incentive for our residents to recycle, with a program we will roll out in a few months. This is a ‘win-win’ for everyone!"
These items can be recycled:
- Plastic bottles and jugs
- Aluminum and metal cans
- Paper and cardboard
- Glass bottles and jars
- Cartons (e.g. milk and juice cartons)
Rumpke and the City have signed a new, three-year contract for waste and recycling services. Residents will receive a mailer from Rumpke with more information. Red recycling bins will be removed and recycled by Rumpke.
Residents can also rent a 95-gallon trash cart for $2 per month, by calling the City 854-7220.
