Sharonville Sees Big Increase in Recycling

SHARONVILLE, Ohio – Oct. 6, 2014 – Since revamping its recycling program in June, the City of Sharonville has seen a 357 percent increase in the amount of materials residents recycled curbside.

Earlier this year, Sharonville signed a new contract with Rumpke Waste & Recycling that allowed all residents to participate in curbside recycling collection at no additional cost. Rumpke delivered 96-gallon recycling carts to eligible households in May, and residents began participating in every-other-week curbside recycling collection in June.

“We are committed to growing recycling in the region,” said Dean Ferrier, Rumpke’s municipal public sector manager. “We are working with communities to remove barriers to recycling as well as educate residents about the importance of participation.”

Prior to revamping the City’s recycling program, less than 600 of Sharonville’s residents recycled. Now nearly 3,000 households are regularly placing their cart at the curb.

“It is refreshing to know that Sharonville residents are enthusiastically participating in this opportunity to make for a more-sustainable community,” said Sharonville Mayor Kevin Hardman.
