Rumpke Awards 2015 Jefferson County Scholarship

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—July 7, 2015—Recent Butler High School graduate Oscar Rodriguez is the 2015 Rumpke Jefferson County Scholarship winner.

Since 2009, Rumpke has awarded the Jefferson County Scholarship to local high school seniors committed to the environment and academics. The winning student receives a $1,000 scholarship to use toward their two or four-year degree from an accredited institution.

Rodriguez plans to attend the University of Louisville in the fall and study biology. Rodriguez enjoys running track and teaching Sunday school to third and fourth graders.

“I think this is our home and we should do everything to protect it,” Rodriguez wrote in his scholarship essay. “As humans, I believe it is our right to better our environment because we are the reason it is deteriorating. Everyone should have the mentality to conserve and protect our environment because it is our home.”

“Congratulations Oscar and thank you for making a difference and inspiring others,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President Greg Beamer.

Rumpke employs approximately 120 people in the Louisville area and provides waste, recycling and portable restroom services.
