MIAMISBURG, Ohio – Sept. 4, 2013—Miamisburg residents have increased recycling by 38 percent since larger recycling carts were distributed by Rumpke Recycling in February. Now, the City is working with Rumpke to make the collection of recyclables more efficient.
In 2012, Miamisburg residents recycled an average of 89 tons per month. So far this year, residents are recycling about 123 tons per month. Every residence is using a 65-gallon recycling cart, which holds three times as much as the former bins used throughout the City. Later this month, Rumpke will begin emptying the recycling carts using an automated collection truck. The truck provides a cleaner, more efficient and safer service because the driver stays inside the cab.
Residents are asked to follow these guidelines:
• Face the cart toward the street (wheels away from street).
• Position the cart within two feet of the curb.
• Avoid placing the cart near parked cars, mailboxes and trash containers.
Rumpke accepts these items for recycling: plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, paper and cardboard. For more information, Miamisburg residents should call the Public Works Department at 847-6635.
