Santa Asks for Help from Recyclers

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Dec. 3, 2013—During the season of giving, Rumpke expects to see as much as 25 percent more trash and recycling. While many holiday items can be recycled, some items can damage recycling equipment or contaminate materials used by elves and other manufacturers to make new things.

Santa asks recyclers to fill their Rumpke Recycling bins with these holiday items:

Cardboard boxes
Shoe boxes
Gift boxes
Wrapping paper (non-foil)
Paper gift bags

Newspaper (including inserts)
Greeting cards
Shipping boxes

Food Containers
Cans and bottles
Boxes (e.g. cake mix)
Plastic bottles and jugs
Glass bottles and jars
Paper grocery bags
Cartons (broth and egg nog)

Recyclers can stay off the naughty list by reusing, donating or discarding the following items instead of putting them in recycling bins:

Unwanted gifts
Packing peanuts and bubble wrap
Ribbons and bows
Plastic shopping bags
Clothing and toys
Décor (wreaths, garland, etc.)
Foil and plastic wrap
Blister or clam shell packaging
