Rumpke Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of Recycling Buy-Back
Unveils New, Improved Public Recycling Station
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – April 23, 2013 – Rumpke celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Mount Vernon Recycling Buy-Back Center on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis and Larry Cooper, district director of the Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow (DKMM) Solid Waste District, toured the site, which included the unveiling of its new public recycling station where visitors can drop off recyclables. Upgrades were funded in part by a grant from DKMM Solid Waste District.
Site improvements include a recycling wall to:
• Clarify what items are accepted and educate visitors about recycling
• Provide a clean, safe and user-friendly site to encourage recycling for all
• Promote safety by separating visitors from forklift traffic and containers
• Prevent illegal dumping and stealing
During its first year in operation, Rumpke’s Buy-Back Center paid back nearly $160,000 to local residents, who recycled aluminum cans and other accepted items. Steel recycling has increased 65 percent since upgrades were installed.
“We appreciate the opportunity to work with Larry Cooper and the DKMM Solid Waste District to continue investing in and improving Knox County,” said John Cochran, Rumpke Recycling site manager. “We have received a lot of positive feedback about the new recycling station, and look forward to continually improving the site.”
Rumpke pays cash for aluminum cans, scrap metals, newspaper, cardboard and more. A complete list and pricing is available on location, at 301 Columbus Road in Mt. Vernon. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
