Upgrades Continue at Mt. Vernon Recycling Buy-Back

Weighing scales installed to speed up customer service

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Nov. 12, 2013 – Rumpke continued enhancements at the Mount Vernon Recycling Facility by installing new scales at the end of October.

Funded in part by the Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow (DKMM) Solid Waste District, scales are expected to speed up the process of weighing scrap metal, recyclables and other accepted materials.

“The scales make it quicker to weigh material, meaning shorter lines and faster service,” said John Cochran, Rumpke Recycling site manager. “We thank Larry Cooper and DKMM Solid Waste District for their contributions as we continually improve the site.”

Rumpke purchased the center in 2011 and has worked closely with the Knox County Commissioners to progressively upgrade the site. Along with the new scales, other recent upgrades include:

  • Structural enhancements and painting the building.
  • Opening of the covered drive-thru buy-back center where customers earn cash by recycling.
  • Installation of a single stream compaction system for curbside recycling capabilities.
  • Creation of new recycling stations for drop-off recycling, which made the site cleaner and improved security.

“Our goal is to provide the best recycling experience for the community by creating a clean, user-friendly site,” Cochran said. “We appreciate loyal customers and look forward to welcoming new recyclers to our location.”

Rumpke pays cash for scrap metal, aluminum cans, newspaper, cardboard and more.  A complete list and pricing is available on location, at 301 Columbus Rd. in Mount Vernon.  Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
