CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — May 18, 2016— Rumpke Recycling and the Logan Elm School District partnered to collect more than 35,000 aluminum cans from January to April to raise money for college scholarships.
Students and local businesses
contributed more than 1,000 pounds of cans during the collection. Rumpke provided a cash payback of approximately $500 to the Logan Elm Industrial Arts Fund, which offers college scholarships to students pursuing careers related to industrial technology.
Rumpke also donated prizes to the students who collected the most cans. Jarred Pontius won first place for the second consecutive year, beating his previous record of 250 pounds of cans.
- First Place: $75, Jarred Pontius, sophomore; collected 277 pounds of cans.
- Second Place: $25, Justin Boldoser, junior; collected 191 pounds of cans.
“As a family-owned company, we understand the importance of the next generation,” said Bret Imler, Rumpke Recycling manager. “We are proud to partner with Logan Elm to encourage recycling and support education.”
In addition to Cans for College, Rumpke also awards two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Pickaway and Ross counties for use toward their higher education. Winners will be announced at a later date.
