Rumpke Donates Truck to Ohio Technical College

CLEVELAND, Ohio – May 8, 2017 – Rumpke Waste & Recycling recently donated a trash truck to Ohio Technical College (OTC) for students to use in applied learning applications.

The 2003 Sterling automated side load truck will be used by diesel mechanic students who are working on engine and hydraulics training. Rumpke provided necessary safety and operations training to instructors.

“Ohio Technical College has been an excellent partner with Rumpke, and we appreciate their support of our growing need for mechanics in the Cleveland area and throughout Ohio,” said Pat Lane, Rumpke regional maintenance manager. “This truck will allow students to work on a complex piece of equipment that’s used every day for providing essential services for residents and businesses.”

By adding this truck to their program, students at OTC will also become more prepared for their Gates/Eaton Hose Certification tests.

“It will be an awesome aid for teaching the basics in hydraulics and circuity, which allows students to understand how to read schematics,” says John Nichols, OTC diesel HVAC & hydraulic instructor. “Students will also be taught how to set up and adjust the propane system, reciprocating and non-reciprocating pumps, and how to diagnose, service and repair a hydrostatic transmission.”

As part of the educational partnership between Rumpke and OTC, students have the opportunity to work part time at Rumpke while going to school. Rumpke also attends a career fair at OTC twice a year.

“Rumpke hopes to hire graduates for full-time positions,” said Pat Lane. “Rumpke has hired graduates from Ohio Technical College in the past and hopes to continue in the future.”
