Do you offer household hazardous waste disposal?

Per federal law, Rumpke cannot accept hazardous materials, including:

  • Batteries

  • Fluorescent light bulbs

  • Paint

  • Antifreeze

  • Freon

  • Combustible materials like gasoline and used motor oil

  • Any other items identified with “Danger” or “Poison”, including pool chemicals, insecticides, and some cleaning supplies

The best way to dispose of such items is to use them up as intended. The worst? Throwing them out in the trash or down the drain. This is not just harmful to the environment, but can also cause dumpster and trash truck fires, especially during warmer seasons.

Thankfully, Kenton County—together with Boone and Campbell Counties—is a member of the Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area (NKSWMA). That means that as a Covington resident, you can simply bring your items to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, typically held the first Saturday in November.

There are many other options for getting rid of household hazardous waste, all clearly and conveniently detailed in the comprehensive Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Resource Guide
