How does trash pickup service work in Ashland?

If you have a Homeowner Association (HOA), check to see whether it hires its own private trash collection service. If not, Rumpke provides comprehensive residential trash and garbage collection and recycling services. You can either call us at (800) 828-8171 or submit a service request form online to register.

We offer weekly curbside pickup of up to six 32-gallon trash cans or bags. Make sure to put your trash and recycling out the night before your scheduled collection day. For more details, check your service guidelines on the back of your invoice or here on our website.

How do I schedule garbage service?

Start by filling out our service request form online. Once you’ve indicated what sort of trash and garbage removal you’re in need of, we’ll work with you to find the right pricing and waste pickup schedule for you.

What is the price?

We offer competitive pricing for household waste management. Call us at (800) 828-8171 so we can discuss your particular needs and generate a custom quote for you.

Do you offer household hazardous waste disposal?

Per federal law, Rumpke cannot accept hazardous materials including:

  • Batteries

  • Fluorescent light bulbs

  • Paint

  • Antifreeze

  • Freon

  • Combustible materials like gasoline and used motor oil

  • Any other items identified with “Danger” or “Poison”, including pool chemicals, insecticides, and some cleaning supplies

The best way to dispose of such items is to use them up as intended. What you should never do? Throw them out in the trash or down the drain. This is not just harmful to the environment, but can also cause dumpster and trash truck fires, especially during warmer weather.

That said, there are places where you can take your household hazardous waste materials. Look out for community events for collecting disposables such as tires and electronic waste (a.k.a. e-waste, which includes old computers, devices, power supplies, and chargers). Or deposit specific items to local retailers, such as Best Buy and The Home Depot for old batteries, and auto parts retailers for used motor oil. You can also try to donate items like leftover paint and cleaning supplies to a local school or nonprofit organization.

How do I schedule bulk trash removal, such as for moving or renovations?

For large renovation or clean-up projects, we offer our dumpster service. With an open-top container, you can tackle larger-scale junk removal resulting from spring cleaning or your home remodel. Our dumpster sizes range from 15 to 40 cubic yards. Call us ahead of time so we can determine the best dumpster for you, as well as advise you of any items that may or may not be accepted at the landfill. These durable dumpsters also serve business owners too, so you know they can withstand the challenge of high-volume residential waste.

How do I dispose of large items like furniture, mattresses, and appliances for disposal?

If you would like to have larger items picked up curbside, make sure to let us know at least 48 hours before your regularly scheduled collection. A few notes:

  • We cannot do curbside pickups of televisions larger than 32 inches.

  • Mattresses and upholstered furniture must be completely sealed in disposable plastic for removal.

If you have several large items that you are discarding as part of a garage, basement, or attic cleanout, you might consider a dumpster rental.

Finally, you can also bring items to our location here at Boyd County Sanitary Landfill, near where US-60 meets I-64.

Additional fees may apply.

How do I find my trash pickup schedule?

You’ll be assigned a once-a-week curbside trash and recycling pickup day when you register for our services. Holiday schedules may vary, so check with us online to see how you might be affected.

How do I get recycling?

Recycling is easy with Rumpke, which uses single-stream recycling and collects all recyclables together in a single container. That saves you the hassle of having to separate out your different recyclables. It also makes our job easier, since that convenience encourages more people to recycle.

In general, you can recycle:

  • Plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs

  • Glass bottles and jars

  • Aluminum cans

  • Steel cans and lids

  • Paperboard (like cereal boxes)

  • Cardboard

  • Office paper

  • Envelopes and junk mail

  • Newspapers, magazines and inserts

  • Telephone books and catalogs

  • Cartons

Want to dispose of your recyclables sooner than your weekly pickup? You can also throw away recyclables at a local grocery store that offers recycle bins for discarding items, or bring your items to a landfill in person.
