Campbell County Police, Rumpke to Honor Good Samaritan

BUTLER, Kentucky - June 15, 2016 - The Campbell County Police Department and Rumpke Waste and Recycling will honor Alexandria resident Louis Scharold tonight at 5:30 p.m. during the Campbell County Fiscal Court meeting at the Campbell County Courthouse located at 1098 Monmouth Street in Newport.

Rumpke credits Scharold with saving its driver from a burning truck following an accident on US 27 in April, when a passenger vehicle struck a Rumpke commercial garbage truck head-on. Both trucks caught fire. Scharold pulled the Rumpke driver from the cab of the truck. He attempted to also save the driver of the passenger vehicle, who died upon impact.

"Mr. Scharold's quick actions probably prevented further loss of life," said Mike Puckett, Rumpke Director of Safety.

To thank Scharold, Campbell County Police will present him with its Wayne Roger's Award. Rumpke will also make a donation to the Special Olympics, a charity special to the family, in his name.
