Not to Toot on our Own Horn, but…

Toot! Last night, Rumpke was recognized for its efforts to educate the public about the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling during the annual Cincinnati Business Courier Green Business Awards. Rumpke took home top honors in the Education/Outreach Category.

“Most people understand the environmental importance of recycling, but very few associate proper waste disposal with being green. However, waste disposal is an integral part of protecting the environment,” said Amanda Pratt, director of corporate communications.

To educate the masses about the environmental importance of landfills and garbage disposal, Rumpke invites the public to tour its landfills. Annually, more than 10,000 people tour our sites to learn more about the environmental safeguards in place, including the liner system, renewable energy system and monitoring stations. Additionally, many of our sites host a community open house to ensure our neighbors have the opportunity to tour the site and speak directly to our team of experts.

Rumpke also offers tours of our recycling centers to educate the public about what is acceptable in the regions’ recycling program and better explain what happens to the material once it leaves the curb. However, we also understand that visiting our sites isn’t always practical so we offer presentations to school, civic and community organizations.

To reach those individuals unable to visit our sites or attend a presentation, Rumpke launched this site that offers short videos of our operations.

Join the thousands of others, and schedule your tour of one of landfills or recycling centers.  E-mail rumpkelandfilltours@rumpke.com to schedule yours today.
